captive orca profiles 107 kyu

Kyu - was one of the Taiji 5 captured in February 1997. He was sent to Nanki Adventure World. He was a very young orca and was kept alone in the back pool until he was old enough to perform in 1999. When Kyu was sexually mature he mated with Ran and their first calf was born on August 26 2004. Sadly the calf was premature and had a broken skull which led to her death 2 days later. Obviously all the orca would have been affected by this loss especially her mother Ran who suffering from blood poisoning, septicemia and pneumonia also died the following day, leaving Kyu alone with Goro. On September 18th 2004, Kyu also had pneumonia and died. It was also rumoured that he had ulcers too although this was never confirmed
