Another Victory for animals and childrens

The Wisconsin Legislature made a major victory for animals. Wisconsin will become the 12th state to pass a bill requiring antifreeze contain a bittering agent, to prevent poisonings to animals and children by the sweet-tasting liquid. The other states to pass similar legislation are: Arizona, California, Maine, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Vermont and Washington. Bills are still pending in Georgia, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Ohio. An estimated 10,000 animals are poisoned each year after ingesting ethylene glycol, the highly toxic substance used in auto antifreeze and coolant. Ethylene glycol's sweet smell and taste makes it attractive to animals as well as children. It only takes a few tablespoons to seriously jeopardize a life. The bill will require manufacturers to add bitter-tasting denatonium benzoate to antifreeze and coolant sold in the state. Until a federal antifreeze bittering bill becomes law, it's up to individual states, concerned citizens and animal lovers to keep even the most curious critters out from under antifreeze's sweet—but deadly—spell.
